SPRING IN THE BAY

Spring is a vibrant time. The days grow longer and warmer, and bright colours sprout from the ground and trees. The Bay offers a sweet taste of Kiwi summer without all the crowds.

Farm Stays

Take to the air for bird’s eye views of the Bay’s spectacular coastline, estuaries, hills, islands, suburbs and more. Skydive Tauranga is a breath-taking experience involving a tandem descent, surrounded by vast blue, towards a beautiful patchwork quilt. Aerius Helicopters’ scenic flight tours offer the ultimate aerial experience of the Bay, as you hover above the likes of white-sand beaches, kiwifruit orchards, local islands, and sea life. Or if you want to take the control wheel of a light plane, head over to Tauranga Aero Club, where they provide you with a magical flight experience – whether you’re a newbie or a barrel-rolling veteran.

Back on the ground, you’ll be motivated to slide into your walking shoes or hop on a bike and head for the hills, tracks and trails. Spring is a fantastic time to enjoy popular walks and cycling tracks, as the weather is stunning – but not too hot – and the crowds of summer haven’t arrived. Motu Trails in Ōpōtiki is the ultimate spot for cycling, walking and running, boasting three main trails and a beautiful backdrop of green and blue. The Pāpāmoa Hills Regional Park is hiking heaven, where you can explore its cultural heritage and pa sites or push yourself to the 224m summit and be treated to some of the best views of the Bay.

The Tauranga Arts Festival, usually held biennially in spring, delivers a unique and memorable live experience. It attracts local talent to the city centre and other parts of the wider Bay, for a range of phenomenal performances and exhibitions that are enjoyed and appreciated by all.
