There’s nothing more relaxing than soaking in a thermal hot pool while gazing at the starry night sky above. Fortunately, the Bay of Plenty is blessed with many geothermal hot springs, allowing you to bathe in toasty temperatures all year round varying from 30 °Celsius to 40 °Celsius.

Our hot pools are often surrounded by beautiful native bush and many have private pools, colder pools, toddler pools and BBQ facilities as well. Oropi Hot Pools

ŌROPI HOT POOLS, CAFE & GARDEN BAR

1 Warner Road, Ōropi, Tauranga

This landscaped hot pool is tucked away in the Ōropi hills and offers a tranquil, rural setting. The water is clean and clear, and there are also private indoor spas available to hire (choose the open roof private pool if you like to stargaze). There’s a great little café for a bite to eat afterwards and a massage and beauty therapy service.

FERNLAND SPA MINERAL HOT POOLS

250 Cambridge Road, Tauranga

Lush native bush including beautiful punga trees surrounds Fernland Spa, providing a peaceful retreat in the middle of suburban Tauranga. There’s built-in seating and the pool is always sparkling clean. Private pools (some with jets) are also available.

ATHENREE HOT SPRINGS AND HOLIDAY PARK

Athenree Road, Athenree, Tauranga

Tucked inside this holiday park are two natural mineral pools which are fed from an aquifer 250 metres below ground. The pure thermal water feels silky soft on your skin and the continuous flow of spring water creates tiny bubbles that will soothe your soul. The water is replenished every 3-4 hours and the smaller of the two pools is reserved for adults only.

SAPPHIRE SPRINGS HOLIDAY PARK

MOUNT HOT POOLS

9 Adams Avenue, Mount Maunganui

Hot salt water eases aches and pains and is believed to help improve mobility and detoxify our bodies. A variety of pools are nestled right at the base of Mauao and feature massage jets, shade sails and built-in seating. There’s a terrific toddlers’ pool and you can treat yourself to a soothing massage or private pool if you wish. This is one of the Bay’s top tourist attractions and shouldn’t be missed.

WELCOME BAY HOT POOLS & HOLIDAY PARK

409 Welcome Bay Road, Tauranga

These family-friendly natural thermal mineral pools have been a local favourite for years. Three circular pools interlink and the temperature and depth vary so there’s a spot to suit everyone. There are also plenty of BBQs and picnic tables around for socialising with your family and friends.

AWAKERI HOT SPRINGS

SH 30, 16km from Whakatāne

If you’re staying in Whakatāne or elsewhere in the Eastern Bay, this gem is worth the short drive to Awakeri. These hot pools are located inside a rustic campground and are surrounded by native bush and glorious birdsong. Shade is available down one end of the main pool, and a shallow pool for children is also on site.
