HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

As a Destination Management Organisation (DMO), Tourism Bay of Plenty has an inherent responsibility to walk the talk as we support and pursue sustainable and regenerative environmental strategies across our coastal region.

With our destination management plan Te Hā Tāpoi | The Love of Tourism guiding the way, here are some of the steps we're currently taking.

The Green Room | Te Rūma Kākāriki – this 12-week programme encourages visitor sector businesses and organisations to work towards a zero carbon and regenerative future. Initiated by Tourism Bay of Plenty, provided by Tourism Industry Aotearoa, and funded by Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council, we’re planning to enrol 100 participants during the first two years of this programme. But guess who was one of the first to sign up – yes, it was us! We’re working alongside our local operators as we all strive for a better future.

Greater Tauranga Pledge participant - we were one of the first organisations to sign up for this city-wide initiative, which aims to reduce the environmental impacts of urban transportation, make it easier to get around Tauranga, and promote public health and wellbeing by encouraging active and low-emission modes of transport. We encourage our team members to participate in the Wednesday Challenge and Aotearoa Bike Challenge and to use the Liftango carpool app and EV carsharing scheme.

Re usable Cups

Resource Wise Business Programme – we’ve earned a Platinum rating within this programme by diverting organic waste to our worm farm and minimising other waste. This includes our efforts to rid our office of single-use cups and containers and using digital business cards.
