Western Bay Museum is a boutique-sized museum situated in Katikaiti. Our district is comprised of beautiful beaches, fertile agricultural land and lush native bush. The communities which make up our population are diverse, dynamic and richly multicultural.
We take immense pride in the historical, cultural and artistic stories of our area and strive to present these narratives in fresh and interesting ways, utilizing our permanent collection of objects and artifacts.
Temporary, thematic exhibitions are developed and displayed regularly, keeping our exhibitions fresh and exciting. A permanent exhibition of Taonga Maori captures the beginning of Aotearoa and our interactive school room which offers a hands-on approach is available to all visitors daily.School groups do require a booking.
Group bookings include a museum tour, scones from the coal range and tea served in bone china.
We are a small museum that tells a big story. We’re open 10am-4pm seven days a week and we’d love to see you.
