Tauranga

When you call into Little Long for one of their delicious coffees, giant cheese scones, delicious salads or raw slices, you’re actually contributing to an amazing programme that reduces waste and supports locals. This chic little café in Tauranga’s CDB belongs to the Good Neighbour rescue food programme – that means instead of leftover food going to landfill, it goes to needy families in Tauranga.

THE DAILY

Te Puke

The atmosphere at The Daily will leave you feeling good in more ways than one – the café serves delicious food and coffee but it is so much more. Run by the locals, The Daily is a not-for-profit eatery that gives all its income back to the local Te Puke community. Youth support services, feeding the needy and crisis meals are all catered for at this hearty café, so when you dine here you’ll be giving back to the residents and worthy organisations in Te Puke.

Waihī Beach

Beautiful Waihī Beach has gotten behind plastic minimisation in a big way; none of the stores give out any plastic bags, plastic straws are gone and all the cafés use reusable cups.

One of the key drivers of this plastic-free paradise is the Surf Shack Eatery. When you call into this popular eatery, you'll not only be treating yourself to one of New Zealand's best burgers (seriously, that's what Lonely Planet had to say!) but you'll be supporting a business that gives a huge amount back to the local community. The Surf Shack offers free coffee to people working in emergency services, and supports Canteen’s CanSurf Waihī Beach Summer Camp. Every time someone orders a Ha-Waihī Surf Burger, the Surf Shack will donate a dollar to the charity. The eatery also feeds the kids for free during their annual CanSurf Waihī Beach Summer Camp visit.
