Top spots for autumn foliage
Autumn in the Coastal Bay of Plenty is a feast for the senses, with crisp blue skies, fiery red leaves, and lush green landscapes creating a picture-perfect backdrop.

MCLAREN FALLS PARK
McLaren Falls Park, just ten minutes from Tauranga, is a must-visit in autumn. The trees put on a colourful show, and the crisp air makes it perfect for a walk. You can go camping, play disc golf, fish, kayak, or just enjoy a picnic by the lake. And don’t miss the waterfall track after dark—the glow worms put on their own little light show!
TUTARAWĀNAGA (YATTON PARK)
Yatton Park in Tauranga South is a local favourite, known for its towering trees — some of the tallest in New Zealand. With a mix of exotic and native species dating back to 1866, the park has a rich history, once home to a Pā site and Tauranga’s first school. It’s a great spot for a picnic, a scenic walk, or a relaxed stroll with the dog. You’ll also find ponds, a stream, BBQ areas, and a small playground to enjoy.

TE PUNA QUARRY PARK
Te Puna Quarry Park is a magical place of beauty, especially in autumn when the trees display vibrant colours. With walkways, panoramic views, native and exotic trees, gardens, ponds, sculptures, and a butterfly house, it’s the perfect spot for a family day out. Dogs are welcome too!
