ESCAPE! YOUR BOOK AND MEET THE AUTHORS
What: Escape! 2020
When: 17 – 18 September, various times
Where: Various locations
Calling all you literature lovers, Escape! 2020 is finally here and there’s an epic line-up of talks in store from some of the best writers in the country.
Brought to you by the Tauranga Arts Festival team, the reshaped ‘pop-up’ event is here to showcase writers who work with small publishers around New Zealand. Hear from cartoonist and journalist Tom Scott and how he came to produce his biography “Searching for Charlie”, learn about native birds common to the Bay from expert Paul Cuming, or take a ride on an illustrated journey through some of Te Radar's favourite moments from New Zealand's past. That’s just a fraction of what’s lined up for Escape! 2020 so make sure to book your spot.

What: Party at Our Place
When: 26 September 10am – 10pm

EVERYBODY LOVES A GOOD SATURDAY MARKET
What: The Little Big Markets
When: The first and third Saturday of every month (location varying), 9am – 2pm
Where: Coronation Park, Mount Maunganui and Papamoa Pony Club, Papamoa Beach
Whether you’re keen to pick up some artisanal goods, want to shop for some new crafty knickknacks or just tuck into some scrumptious delights, The Little Big Markets has it all.
Held across both Mount Maunganui and Papamoa on alternating weekends, these markets have a range of the Bay’s finest market stalls. As these markets start becoming more frequent in the build-up to summer, you’ll start to see new and exciting vendors setting up shop who will be sure lure you in.

REVISIT FOODIE NOSTALGIA
What: Eat Your Memories
When: 22 October – 15 November, various times
Where: Shhh. It’s a secret!
Salt and vinegar chip butties anyone? Everybody has that nostalgic food memory that they’ll always remember and the team at Kitchen Takeover are here to reinvent some of those memories on a, let’s say, chef-class level.
Join chef Shane Yardley and other fellow diners, while he delivers some of the most iconic kiwi delights of the past. With the six-course degustation menu announced on arrival at the secret location in Tauranga, you can leave it up to your imagination for what’s in store.

Where: Soper Reserve, Mount Maunganui
Celebrate all things vegan at Vegan Vibes’ fifth year running. It doesn’t matter if the vegan life didn’t choose you, there’s still plenty to eat, see, learn and do!
Bringing together a range of vegan street food, fashion, health and beauty products, as well as guest speakers, workshops and live music intended to educate and entertain.
Park up for the day at Soper Reserve, try some vegan goodness, connect with likeminded people and learn about all things Vegan.

SUNDAY'S ARE FOR GETTING CRAFTY
What: Waihī Beach Art & Craft Fair
When: Sunday 25 October, 10am – 3.30pm
Where: Waihī Beach Community Centre, Beach Road, Waihī Beach
There’s one beneficial outcome from lockdown - the boost in refined craftmanship, and it’s time to show off the goods!
Come on down to Waihī Beach Community Centre this Labour Weekend and wander around the delightful stalls selling all sorts of wonderful arts and crafts. There’s sure to be something for everyone and this year there’ll also be a new café where you can enjoy a hot bevvy and some moreish delights. Hope to see you there!

WHO SAID STEINS ARE JUST FOR GERMANS?
When: Saturday 31 October, 3pm – 10pm
Where: The Historic Village Green, 159 17th Avenue West, Tauranga
Dust the cobwebs off your Lederhosen or Dirndl and come on down to Tauranga’s first ever Oktoberfest.
Celebrate everything Bavarian, whether you’re reconnecting with your German roots or just want to soak up a bit of new culture, Oktoberfest is a guaranteed evening of entertainment. Sit down to a hefty stein whilst digging into a 12-hour pit roasted pulled pork schrippe, then settle in for a fun evening of live music from Tauranga’s Oktoberfest Oompa band and don’t be afraid to get your dancing shoes on!

Where: Mahy Reserve, 13 Pohutukawa Avenue, Ōhope
Celebrate all things local to the Eastern Bay at the Ōhope Local Wild Food Challenge. Whether you love to hunt, fish, forage, gather or grow, we’d love to see some of the amazing local plates you can serve up.
Now in its fifth year, there’ll be all sorts of new foods to try, a kids comp, live music and plenty more, so come along, whether you’re cooking or not! Oh, and did we mention that it’s free entry?!

THE GREAT BAY OF PLENTY GARDEN OFF
What: Bay of Plenty Garden & Art Festival
When: 19 – 22 November

See how your backyard compares to some of New Zealand’s best. Commemorate the beauty and creativity of both the Bay’s finest gardens and most talented artists.
With more than 70 stunning gardens and galleries to explore, you’ll not be disappointed. Meet and discover over 100 amazing artists and their works, which will be displayed at gardens and galleries across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. Not only subject to gardens and art, you’ll have access to the festival hub “Bloom in the Bay”, where you can enjoy live music, great food, beverages and plenty more on offer.
