If you’re an 80’s child, you’ll probably recognise many of the symbols and characters in Ahsin’s work. His skater life in Hamilton, populated with urban graffiti and school-yard sketchers, has infiltrated his art work. You’ll find transformer-style characters and graphic symbols you probably doodled on your own school books.
For Mega World, the Tauranga Art Gallery's 2019 signature show, Ahsin will take us on an intergalactic voyage. Transforming the large entrance way of the Gallery, with its daunting 7-metre-high walls, into a galactic battle field, complete with a robotic croc, lightning bolt symbols and a towering ‘Autobot’.
Painting directly onto the three large-scale walls, this site-specific installation has to be seen to be believed!
Entry to the Tauranga Art Gallery is free, but donations make great art like this happen!
