Archaeology Week: Archaeology of Hopukiore, Mount Maunganui

May 3rd | Hopukiore (Mount Drury), Mt Maunganui, Bay of Plenty
see more dates...

Hopukiore Mt Drury is one of Tauranga’s little hidden gems, a ‘mini’ Mauao because of the concentration of archaeological features from Tauranga’s earliest Polynesian settlers.

Archaeologist Ken Phillips will talk about the archaeology of Hopukiore and surrounding archaeological landscape including Pilot Bay and Mauao. This is a great opportunity to hear from an archaeologist who has researched, surveyed and investigated local landmarks.

For more information, contact Heritage New Zealand's Lower Northern Area Office, tel (07) 577 4530 or email infolowernorthern@heritage.org.nz.

This event is part of the national Archaeology Week 2018 programme.

New Zealand Archaeology Week is presented by the New Zealand Archaeological Association with the aim of increasing public awareness and highlighting the importance of protecting our archaeological heritage by promoting the work of New Zealand archaeologists both at home and abroad.
