Latest COVID-19 Information

Fifteen Te Moananui ā Toi | Coastal Bay of Plenty events have secured a vital financial boost from the new Regional Events Fund (REF), which the Government has introduced to support the tourism sector during the COVID-19 pandemic while New Zealand’s border remains closed to international visitors.

The events are being planned at various locations, from Katikati to Ōhope, and include established, well-known fixtures such as the AIMS Games, Tauranga Arts Festival, and STEM Festival. New events that have secured access to the fund include Polo in the Bay, Flavours of Plenty Festival, and The West End Wiggle.

The aim of the region’s $865,300 REF allocation is to invest in events that will drive significant regional visitation, particularly during the shoulder seasons (outside the summer peak period). The fund has been boosted by a further $200,000 allocated from the region’s community-based trust TECT.

The selected REF events had to prove they’re supporting at least one of our regional Place DNA®:
