Walk the Orokawa Trail
The Orokawa Trail is a stunning 45-minute (each way) walk through bush with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy the sounds of birdlife as you pass by towering pohutukawa trees, kauri, puriri and our native nikau palm trees. When you get to Orokawa Bay you can rest under the large pohutukawa trees on a beach that often has no other people on it.

Blokarts are a fun, fast, compact wind-powered go-kart. They were invented in Pāpāmoa and here at Baypark is the only place in NZ you can enjoy them. (They’re pretty reasonably priced too, at $30 per person for half an hour). To ride solo you must be eight years or older, but younger kids can sail in a tandem Blokart known as a shadow kart. Typically speeds of 30-50 kph (18-31 mph) are achieved, but speeds of over (106 kph / 65 mph) have been recorded. Blokart sailing is also wheelchair accessible and able to be done by people without the use of their legs. The tandem blokart can also be used can take people who are blind or are unable to sail on their own.

The Bay of Plenty has an extraordinary micro climate that allows it to produce over 80% of New Zealand’s kiwifruit. Stop off here on your way to Whakatāne for a Kiwifruit Country ice-cream – made from green or gold kiwifruit pulp and New Zealand A2 milk. Delicious!
