If you haven't had enough sunshine, the Octopus Garden Cafe (11 minutes' walk) is a best kept local secret.
Slightly further afield you'll find Heath Street Cafe (20 minutes' walk), another newbie and local favourite. This sunny spot boasts a love of good food and great coffee, serving all day breakfast, brunch and lunch.
Follow the sound of the surf to Tay Street Beach Cafe (17 minutes' walk). This popular hub is across from the beach and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can enjoy an iced coffee or cool glass of wine in the afternoon sun after a stroll along the beach. There's also a dairy right next door for the kids to grab an ice cream for the short stroll back to Bay Oval!

Tay Street Beach (18 minutes' walk) is a hive of activity during the summer months. From this point along the coast you can book a surf lesson or hire boards to improve your skills in the warm ocean waters. Take a dip with designated patrolled swimming zones in the summer for your family's safety, or simply enjoy the feeling of sand between your toes with a short walk toward Mount Maunganui or the Moturiki (Leisure) Island blow hole!
Mount Maunganui Mainstreet (24 minutes' walk) is renowned for it's boutique shopping, particualrly when it comes to New Zealand designers.
