Tourism Bay of Plenty takes the lead role in managing the Coastal Bay of Plenty as a thriving tourism destination and growing the region’s visitor economy in a sustainable, and ultimately regenerative way. We work closely with stakeholders from travel trade, cruise lines, domestic and international media, visitor services, events, and local tourism businesses to create and promote meaningful activities and experiences for locals and visitors that showcase our natural environment and unique culture, whilst also ensuring this returns positive benefits to local communities.

There are more than 500 tourism businesses in our region, including accommodation providers, tour operators, regional attractions, restaurants, retail businesses, and health and wellness services.

We partner with the national tourism organisation Tourism New Zealand and the eXplore Central North Island collective to market the Coastal Bay of Plenty internationally. Our work supports community wellbeing by improving the quality of life, economy and collaborative management of our regional resources. This contributes to making Tauranga an internationally competitive city at the heart of a prosperous region.

How the i-SITE fits in

The i-SITE New Zealand brand is owned and managed by Tourism New Zealand under the Visitor Information Network (VIN INC). Each i-SITE is governed and/or owned either by an RTO, council or private enterprise.

The Tauranga i-SITE Visitor Information Centre and Mount Maunganui summer pop-up i-SITE Visitor Information Centre are both managed by Tourism Bay of Plenty. These i-SITEs are essentially the front line of visitor information and the team provides friendly customer service to locals and manuhiri (visitors). Our staff are armed with expert knowledge and tasked with providing relevant information and travel bookings locally and throughout New Zealand.
