TAURANGA CITY COUNCIL ANNUAL PLAN 2020-2021
CONSULTATION 17 JUNE TO 1 JULY 2020

WHAT DO WE NEED?

Tourism Bay of Plenty (TBOP) is seeking support to maintain its existing funding from Tauranga City Council (TCC) so that it can support the tourism industry when it is most needed. In 2018, TBOP become a Destination Management Organisation (DMO) to better manage local tourism on behalf of our residents.

Due to COVID-19 disruptions and pressures on current funds, TCC is requiring a public consultation period before confirming funding across the board. This includes TBOP’s funding and we are appealing for submissions to support our case to keep our current funding.

Recognising the importance DMOs play in the tourism eco-system, especially in destinations outside the main tourism hotspots, central Government has a funding pot of $20.2 million. TBOP is a strong contender for up to $700,000 of this fund, however, its local council funding must be maintained at pre-COVID-19 levels.

This additional funding would enable TBOP to accelerate its destination marketing and industry support to help rebuild the tourism economy after the devastation of COVID-19.

HOW CAN YOU HELP US?

To enable the rebuild of the Coastal Bay of Plenty’s tourism industry in the wake of COVID-19, please reiterate your support for TBOP’s existing funding to remain in TCC’s Annual Plan 2020-2021 consultation by Wednesday 1 July. To make this process quick and easy, we have developed a support letter template which you can download here. Simply add your name and business to the bottom of the letter and then email it to submissions@tauranga.govt.nz
