Pacific Coast Highway
6 days/5 nights - Auckalnd > Coromandel > Bay of Plenty > Whakatane > Gisborne > Hawke's Bay
DAY ONE: Depart Auckland on the Pacific Coast Highway and enjoy a coast drive around the Firth of Thames to the Coromandel Peninsula. This drive will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on where you choose to stay on the peninsula.
Enjoy a morning in the Coromandel, perhaps visit Cathedral Cove or Hot Water Beach where at low tide you can dig a hole and enjoy a soak in the warm water or partake in one of the many coastal or outdoor activities on offer. Make your way to the Bay of Plenty region in the afternoon. Depending on how much you have done during the day you may wish to stay at the northern part of the Bay of Plenty region at Waihi Beach or carry on further to Tauranga or Mount Maunganui to find your accommodation.
DAY THREE: Spend the morning in Tauranga and the surrounding areas. Climb to the top of Mount Maunganui for a truly breathtaking view of our coastal region. Soak up a bit of beach lifestyle and culture at the cafes along Mount Maunganui's Main Beach before continuing south along the Pacific Coast Highway to Whakatane. Here you may wish to enjoy a trip to White Island an active volcano or take a relaxing walk along Ohope Beach. Overnight in Whakatane or Ohope Beach.
DAY FOUR: Continue on your coastal journey around the East Cape to Gisborne. The drive will be breathtakingly rugged and beautiful. This is a lengthy drive as there are so many great spots to stop to admire the views. You may wish to break your journey to make it a day long by overnighting in Hick's Bay, a remote location, a place in which to really enjoy the tranquillity of New Zealand. Alternatively continue your journey to Gisborne.
DAY FIVE: Enjoy some of the activities in and around Gisborne, then in the afternoon make your way to the Hawke's Bay region. Find a winery for a relaxing evening meal or take a stroll around Napier the main centre known for it's stunning art deco buildings.
DAY SIX: Today, enjoy some of the fresh food and wine that this region is well known for, follow a food trail, visit a Farmer's Market or lunch at a winery. Alternatively take a tour to the Cape Kidnappers Gannet Colony or enjoy a cycle tour.
