4pm events start with circus-themed activities for the whole family.
5pm film starts.

Duration 70 minutes.

Silent Cinema is in its third year, presented by Night Owl Cinema and Baycourt Presents. Silent Cinema is an evening giving you a 1920s-cinema experience! See Baycourt as never before, themed as a 1920s circus and watch the film as it was before words, accompanied by a score played by organ legend Ron Clark on the Mighty Wurlitzer.

The Circus (1928) written and directed by Charlie Chaplin is about a penniless and hungry Tramp (Chaplin) who is mistaken for a condemnable pickpocket and chased by both the police and the real crook. Running away, the Tramp stumbles into the middle of a performance and unknowingly becomes the hit of the show.

The ringmaster hires Chaplin as a clown but discovers that he can only be funny unintentionally, not on purpose. The Circus was the seventh highest grossing silent film in cinema history taking in more than $3.8 million in 1928. The film continues to receive high praise and is a Chaplin classic.

Bring the whole family to Baycourt for 1920s circus fun with candy floss, popcorn and circus acts on the Baycourt lawn and in the foyer. The Circus is a family friendly show and a great way to introduce your children, or grandchildren, to a bit of film history!

Keep an eye out to win a VIP experience through our Facebook page and get hair done by Lynx, makeup by Desiree Osterman, costume with Bay Costume Hire and ride to the show in luxury thanks to BOP Vintage Car Club!
