TE PUNA QUARRY PARK

Image: Art along the Te Puna Quarry Park walking tracks

Te Puna Quarry Park is an enchanting haven of plants, pathways and spectacular views that was created out of an unused quarry by a group of dedicated volunteers. The park is 32 hectares of public land, which until 1979 was mined for quarry rock.

At the quarry is a mixture of native plants and bush as well as themed sections such as Australia and South Africa, a succulent and cactus section and a very popular orchid area. There are also many sculptures, including the popular china man and china woman, a music area for children and an amphitheatre.

The park is open daily during daylight hours. If the main gates are closed, the park is still open to pedestrians and cars can be parked outside the gates. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

The park is situated at the end of Quarry Road (length 1 km), which runs off State Highway 2, 18km north of Tauranga.
