Katikati ‘mural town’ will star on the cover of the coastal Bay of Plenty region’s biggest marketing tool, the regional visitor guide.
The visitor guide, produced by Tourism Bay of Plenty, is used to promote the region to potential visitors from all over the world. Due to increased demand and a more comprehensive distribution system this year, 100,000 copies of the guide will be printed.
Tim Burgess, Tourism Bay of Plenty’s general manager, said Katikati was chosen as the cover shot this year because it offers a unique, destinational attraction that is special to the region.
“We wanted to show that the coastal Bay of Plenty is more than just beaches and it offers a range of great attractions in and out of the water," Tim said. “There’s nothing else like Katikati’s mural walk in New Zealand so we wanted to make visitors aware of its unique features.”
The 2009 version of the guide will be unleashed in the next few weeks as the region prepares to welcome in the first of 56 cruise ships this year on Monday 20 October.
In addition to its distribution in 90 i-SITE visitor centres throughout the country, the guide is given to visiting media and travel trade, conference and meeting delegates and is downloadable on the www.bayofplentynz.com website.
