These charter groups will enable the tourism industry to continue promoting New Zealand as a 'clean and green' destination by:

  • Improving the environmental performance of participating tourism operators
  • Providing ways to improve individual business capability around sustainable practices
  • Increasing the number of businesses actively incorporating sustainable business practices
  • Supporting the 100% Pure NZ brand

Anyone interested in the project should contact the project co-ordinator, Mereana Mills at mereana@sbcnz.co.nz or phone +64 27 257 4432.

The steering committee that will guide the project are made up of tourism industry personnel and regional stakeholders that provide additional expertise and perspective. The 10 pilot tourism businesses have developed the Sustainable Tourism Charter and undergone a series of workshops in readiness for implementing actions to improve their sustainability.

The next phase of the project involves engaging with additional businesses ready to undergo a comprehensive onsite sustainability assessment.
