Deep-sea fishing is aplenty in the region. Many of the local reefs are only 30 minutes away where you can catch snapper, kingfish, hapuku or marlin. Popular islands for fishing include Tuhua (Mayor Island) and Motiti.

Welcome to Abyss Safari Charters. We are dedicated to serving the nautical adventurer and make it our mission to ensure you have a great time and take home fond memories of your trip with us in the great outdoors.

For divers, “Enterprise II” is our historic, 60’, fully equipped dive boat, with a spacious, enclosed dive deck, hot shower and toilet facilities and a 12’ tender boat for in-water diver pick-ups. She accommodates 30 guests for day trips, or 12 for extended live-aboard safaris.

All levels of diver experience are catered for; non-divers are welcome to snorkel or just come along for a day on the water. Dive guides are available on every trip, and full equipment hire can be arranged. Dive sites visited include Mayor Island Marine Reserve, the wreck of the Taioma, Plate and Motiti Islands and Astrolabe Reef.

If your passion is fishing, we can offer two high quality 40’ game boats - “Fixation” and “Sunfish I”. Both are rigged for serious fishing and are available to charter for game/reef fishing, diving, private/corporate events and sightseeing cruises. We can accommodate up to 16 guests for cruises, 8 for day diving or fishing safaris, or 6 for extended live-aboard charters.

Complimentary hot and cold drinks are offered on all our trips. Additional catering options are available on request.

We have other vessels available for private charter for day fishing and diving and extended live-aboard trips and can cater for any party size and budget.

All vessels chartered through us are fully surveyed to operate in the Bay of Plenty and further afield, meet current Maritime NZ safety requirements, have modern electronics and communications equipment, and safety and life saving equipment in excess of minimum requirements.
