Arts and Crafts

The Bay of Plenty's arts and crafts culture has been growing strong in the past few years. Take some time to browse through art markets, local shops or artists' studios to learn about the local art on offer.

A gallery website of contemporary artist Sharen Watson. Sharen works with no finished image in mind, playing with colours and textures, splattering, throwing and applying paint with brush, hands, rags and rollers.

The canvas is turned often as the artist is unsure at this stage which way is "up"... Slowly a glimpse of a subject starts to appear. This is developed further and the painting frenzy slows.

Canvases are quite often large, colours bright and vibrant. Texture is always present. Because of the painting process subject matter will always be varied but hopefully, exciting.

Sharon is happy for visitors to come see her home studio. Please ring to organise a visit.

Sharen's work can also be seen in Zohar in downtown Mount Maunganui and other galleries throughout New Zealand.
